What's A Life Coach?

1"We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future." --George Bernard Shaw

Life Coaching can improve your life by helping you discover what you value most and design your life around those values. A Life Coach partners with you as you work through this process. Coaching is not to be confused with psychotherapy or mental health counseling, nor is it a replacement. The coaching relationship does not "heal" issues from the past. Coaching begins from an understanding that you are healthy and capable of creating great things in your life. The focus is on your future and where you want your life to go. Life Coaches are trained and gifted at asking questions that help you figure out how to get to where you want to go.

Another way to look at Life Coaching is to think of a talented athlete wanting to move to the next level in their game. What do they do? They hire a coach who helps them build on their current strengths and work through weaknesses that may be getting in the way of their ultimate goals. Coaches encourage, provide structure and take an active interest in their clients' goals and aspirations. That's what I can do for you as a personal or professional life coach.

What to expect from a good Life Coach:

  • Be respected, honored and truly listened to
  • Focus on your personal and/or professional needs and goals
  • Be held accountable in a way that feels right for you
  • Questioning that helps you gain clarity in your goals
  • Assistance in identifying and working through roadblocks
  • Ongoing support and encouragement
  • A new level of personal satisfaction in your life

The life coaching relationship is very flexible. The process is designed in a way that works best for you and your lifestyle. The coaching agreement is typically set up on a monthly basis which includes regularly scheduled sessions by phone or in person along with additional emails or "check in" calls as needed.

"We must see people in terms of their future potential, not their past performance." - John Whitmore
